About
Who we are.
Dabtong House is an independent non-profit operating in Bhutan. We are the in-country home for long-running projects that thread Bhutan and Japan together.
What our name means
Dabtong (འདབ་སྟོང་།) is the Dzongkha word for a thousand petals. The logo borrows from two traditions at once: the Japanese ichimatsu checker pattern and the geometric ornaments woven into Bhutanese textiles and architecture. Many small squares that, together, make a flower.
Dabtong: a thousand petals. House: a welcoming space, a community.
How we fit
Dabtong House funds, supports, coordinates, and hosts the work it takes on. Additional funding for many of our initiatives flows through a network of industry and academic partners.
Dabtong House is a registered non-profit organization in the Gelephu Mindfulness City. We provide a legal presence that allows us and our international partners to operate inside the country.
